Make me laugh

Music has the power to make us laugh, cry, feel empowered and to find the courage we thought we didn’t have. I’ve heard it said by many that they didn’t like certain genres of music. Every genre is not going to appeal to every person. I would argue, however, that any genre is bad or without merit. All music is beneficial and has value. Some music is meant to make up feel badly, or angry. Such evocation of negative emotions does not make the music bad, only that it has brought negativity out of the listener. Music truly is that mirror that reveals the truth of ourselves and it achieves that through sound.

When one listens to speed metal, the general consensus is the feeling of racing adrenalin and power. Sometimes, the sensation feels similar to anger. If the listener doesn’t enjoy such feelings, they’re not going to like that style of music. When there are many grouped together that don’t appreciate a certain genre, it’s easy for the group to descend into mob-mentality and disparage the genre en masse. I understand well the desire to interact with like-minded people who share the same views. What challenges me more, however, is when I interact with people who have different views. The average person might get defensive or antagonistic. However, that seems to be the MO of the weak-minded. A person who has different views as I do is not immediately my enemy; a person who shares my views is not necessarily my ally.

Regardless the style(s) of music you prefer, there is one thing upon which I think we all agree: music that makes us laugh is always appreciated. Not going where you thought I was going with this... am I? I love musical comedy. And, I don’t mean comedic musical theater. I am talking about music that is hell bent to make us all laugh our butts off. I offer you these pieces in the hopes that when you’re feeling blue, low, depressed, angry, sad, lonely, or like you want to gouge out your eyeballs with grapefruit spoons... try listening to one of these gems instead.
